Brookhaven Town NAACP
The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to secure them political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons. The Brookhaven Branch has 10 committees that support this mission on Long Island: Civic Engagement, Criminal Justice, Economic Development, Education, Health, Legal, Redress, Membership, Outreach, Political Action, WIN - Women In NAACP. Faith Baptist Church
The Faith Baptist Church is a house of worship founded in 1964 and located in the Coram/Gordon Heights communities of Long Island. Weekly services attract 200-300 attendees. The church maintains several active programs including meals on wheels and senior citizen support services. It hosted the first Freedom School based in a house of worship in Suffolk County. Long Island State Veterans Home
The Long Island State Veterans Home, founded in 1991, has emerged as one of Long Island's premiere providers of long-term skilled nursing services and adult day health care and has compassionately cared for more than 15,000 United States veterans, and stands ready to provide care for the 100,000 Veterans who reside on Long Island. The mission of The Long Island State Veterans Home is twofold - first, to provide the highest quality and most comprehensive health care services to Long Islands veterans and their families without regard to race, gender, religion, disability, age or national origin; and second, to serve as a model site for research, and the education and training of tomorrows long-term care and geriatric professionals. Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC)
The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council represents the not-for-profit and public hospitals on Long Island. It works in conjunction with the Suburban Hospital Alliance to advance legislative and regulatory priorities, serving as the local and collective voice for hospitals on Long Island. NSHC leadership interacts with media representatives, other policymakers, and all levels of legislators. Latina Sisters Support
Latina Sisters Support is a sisterhood dedicated to serving newly-diagnosed cancer survivors and their families through emotional, financial and spiritual support. They operate as a resource to increase access to cancer diagnosis, treatment and care. They are a resource of knowledge about programs and services for wellbeing and survivorship after breast cancer, and other cancers diagnoses. Latina Sisters Support
Shinnecock Nation
The Shinnecock Indian Nation is a federally recognized tribe of historically Algonquian-speaking Native Americans based at the eastern end of Long Island, New York. The tribe is headquartered in Suffolk County, on the southeastern shore. The Nation primarily holds jurisdiction over tribal territory at Shinnecock Neck, a peninsula that juts into the Shinnecock Bay encompassing approximately 900 acres, and as well as land at Westwoods in Hampton Bays encompassing approximately 100 acres along the Peconic Bay. There are currently over 1,589 enrolled tribal members and about half of the Shinnecock membership live on the Reservation at Shinnecock Neck. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Suffolk County (RSVP)
RSVP is a 501(c)3 organization with a volunteer roster of over 500 seniors aged 55 and older who wish to remain active and make a difference in their communities. RSVP has been serving all of Suffolk County since 1972, and partners with over 75 not-for-profit organizations throughout the county who need volunteers to assist them. exists so that someone like you, with the energy, life experience and knowledge to share, can make a big difference where you are most needed - in your community. Funded by federal, state, county and local government, as well as foundations and private contributions. In 2023, these volunteers gave approximately 100,000 working hours. Sun River Health
Sun River Health is a federally qualified health center that provides comprehensive community healthcare to over 250,000 people across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley. Its mission is to increase access to comprehensive primary and preventive health care and to improve the health status of our communities, especially for the underserved and vulnerable. Sun River Health works through 40 health centers and affiliate organizations, including CHASI, CWHA, The Preservation Company, The Alamo Community Center, and others. Unkechaug Nation
The Unkechaug people are descendants of the original people of Long Island, and approximately half live on the Poospatuck Reservation on the southern shore just west of Moriches. Today, the reservation in Poospatuck is 55 acres, down from the original 17th century agreement size of 1500 acres. Housing for their tribe members is a concern, as they have population growth above the national average and a lack of land. Health concerns for the people of the Unkechaug Nations include diabetes, depression, and asthma - all three of which are found in higher rates than the national average. Unkechaug Nation
